Try going to www.repairmanual.com and looking. They have manuals for all kinds of things from tractors to personal water crafts.

My grandfather used to have a 1970 something wheel horse lawn tractor. Old style had to pull a handle back to engage drive belt. They are tough machines.

They are equally good machines. Find out about availability of snowblowers for tractors that old. Then look at the overall condition of each one. Which brand has a better dealer near you? Then decide which is the better choice for you.

I have no experience with a Wheel Horse, but the one Deere that I used in the past was a piece of crap. It was very slow and broke down a lot. I don't remember the model number but it was a rider and had something like a 42" deck out front. It would have been an early 90's model.

Also, yes, the price seems reasonable for a mower of that many hours. Here's a '98 for $3700: http://www.machinefinder.com/ww/en-US/machine/584771

Well both are good machines but I lean more towards the John Deere more service centers and parts are available. You may want to consider a ZTR (zero turn radius) if you are cutting tight areas. Most tractors will not allow you to cut in reverse without stopping and engaging a reverse safety switch usually part of the PTO or a button that must be pushed first. I have been a JD service tech for many years and see the difference in dependability versus other brands I have worked on all brands MTD Yard Machine Toro JD White Wheel horse etc allot depends on the owner and how they use or abuse their machine. Regular maintenance and care they will last. I have repaired new and old JDs from 2008 to the early 70s so it comes down to personal preference.
